Bishop James said in his letter to clergy that we "should not feel pressurized to open church buildings at this time if you feel a safer option would be to offer digital and online services.” By the same token, if you are personally concerned about the risks involved, you should not feel under any pressure to attend your usual church just because it is open.

Please note the wearing of face coverings for worship is mandatory.

Please be aware that due to COVID-19 restrictions we can only accommodate a reduced number of worshippers at one time.

Please do not be offended if we cannot admit you to the service.

Some of our church buildings are now open for private prayer by arrangement.

St Mary's Church will be open on Wednesdays from 10am-12noon for private prayer

If you'd like to spend some time in St James', or Jesus Church please contact
In order to keep you and our community safe we are only permitted to allow individuals or people from one household or bubble to visit at the same item.

“The Bishop of Carlisle has appointed The Revd. Shanthi Thompson, at present Priest in Charge of the Benefice of Staveley, Ings and Kentmere, and Assistant Priest of Bowness, Troutbeck and Windermere as Priest in Charge [Vicar Designate] of the Benefice of Kendal Holy Trinity. This appointment is subject to the usual legal checks.”

Shanthi says: 'Having served the Benefice of Staveley, Ings and Kentmere for 8 years, and having been encouraged to consider the role at Holy Trinity by several people, I felt it was only right to explore the possibilities God was offering me. I am delighted to have been appointed to Holy Trinity but will be sad to leave the South Lakes Churches. I am thankful for the friendship, support and the opportunities to grow in my ministry serving you has given me. I will work with our church leadership and with James to make the transition as smooth as possible. I believe that as God has called me to this new chapter of ministry, He will also be calling a new minister to serve you. I will be praying that God will hold you during this time and ask that you will pray for me also.'

Keep us, good Lord, under the shadow of your mercy

in this time of uncertainty and distress.
Sustain and support the anxious and fearful,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may rejoice in your comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We are situated in the southern part of the beautiful Lake District National Park.
